This Fathers Day, we pay tribute to the rich white man who always kept our backyard safe.
He worked late, writing letter after letter to the planning commission. He testified at all the hearings. When the neighborhood was under attack, he stood up to hurl insults at our city council member. Dad had a good job, provided us with a nice home. Most of all Dad had a lot of pride. So it was hard on him when he had to start pretending his family was the victim of gentrification. It went against the way he saw himself.

Okay, maybe this doesn’t sound like your dad, but it could have been your friend’s dad. Or maybe it was your mom’s weird boyfriend. The point is, every block has a devoted father figure who’s looking out for the neighborhood.
